S.T.R.A.W. Inc. ™’s long-term, holistic programming is relevant and responsive to the needs of the girls and young women we serve.


We are pleased to offer the following services:

  • Counseling – individual and group;

  • Life skills training and coaching;

  • Mentorship – youth and adult;

  • Small and Large interactive training workshops;

  • Career and Job Placement Assistance;

  • Safe Place for youth and young women in crisis


  • Adolescent and teen girls between the ages of 11 years and 18 years who desire to learn more about themselves, set goals and pursue their dreams;

  • Young women who are overcoming stressors in their lives, such as poverty, discrimination, low self esteem, abusive situations, unstable homes, unrealistic academic challenges and pressure form society’s bent on the social messages presented by the media;

  • Families (of young women) who need an objective but caring sounding board in order to improve relationships at home.


Coupled with a strong network of support with the Bahamian school system, the Christian church, the government and corporate citizens, S.T.R.A.W.Inc.™Center for Young Women© commits to:

  • Providing access to quality education and complete information

  • Promoting and encouraging economic and social skills guided by mentors and resources to participate in community life;

  • Implementing effective training programs and monitoring systems for mentors and volunteers;

  • Working with girls and young women to build on their strengths and capabilities to develop and sustain their communities;

  • Engaging girls to explore leadership opportunities and create social change among their peers;

  • Advocating for, developing and sustaining policies that will advance the well-being and realization of the human rights of girls and young women.
